catcher in the rye - part 3.

Now that I'm 3/4 done with the book, I'm still waiting for the big bang to happen. Like I have said previously, there really hasn't been a climax. But, I find it very interesting that we are reading this book in school. Not because it is considered satire, but because it doesn't follow the proper novel criteria. When I say this, I mean the climax, rising action, resolution, etc.

now that i've read more into the book, my feelings have kind of changed. it seems like Salinger is  stretching out the story and just writing aimlessly in all directions. it really bothers me when he goes off topic and then continues with what he was talking about. i just want to get to the point, and don't really care too much about all the little distractions that Holden talks about. the story hasn't reached a climax yet.. and i've heard from other classmates that there really is no exciting point in the book. hopefully, it will start to shape up, because it had such a great beginning, and it would be such a shame to end badly.

Halfway through the book, a lot has happened. So far, I'm really enjoying this story. It is much different than other books that have been assigned to read during school, and JD Salinger has definately got me hooked.
When I first started reading, I thought that Holden was ignorant and rough, and didn't really care much about anything, especially school. But also, I had a feeling that he was really a softie on the inside. Later on into the book, we learn he is harsh because of his brothers death.
I really enjoyed watching Holden's character transform into the person that he truly is. We also learn that he is a really lonely man, and just needs a friend and someone to lean on.
The first instance that we can really see how kind Holden really is is when he offers to write Stradlater's paper for him. This not only showed us that he cared about Stradlater, but that he also had a larger heart than one might think. Another side of Holden that we see is his sensitivity, when he brings up the baseball mitt covered in poetry written by his brother.
